Happy New Year 2011 – Time To Start Forgetting Those Resolutions!

Why do we do this to ourselves?  We make these empty promises each year, which make us feel good for a few hours, days, or for the die hards, weeks; and then we crash and burn like Tiger Woods at a monogamy convention.

Sure, we’d all like to eat better, exercise more, lose weight, stop smoking, give up crack and heroin (TMI?), but honestly, maybe you are who you’re supposed to be.

I am meant to be a pleasantly plump, smart ass of a woman.  I wouldn’t be me if I lost all the extra weight I’m carrying and gave up on the sarcasm.  I’d be a much less interesting writer, and I’d have to learn to cook and stop relying on take away food – that might make me miserable!

Take some pressure off of yourself.  Don’t make resolutions this week.  You’re already in Catholic guilt mode – you over indulged through the holidays – one too many egg nogs, two too many cookies – and you feel badly about yourself.  Go, right now, find the last Christmas morsel of goodness and enjoy it.  So what if it’s January 2nd and you resolved not to eat any more cookies – you deserve to enjoy it.

Resolve to make changes on Martin Luther King day, when the pressure isn’t as great (and you’ve already eaten all of the Girl Scout cookies you’re going to buy from my girls).  But look in the mirror.  Maybe the resolution you need to make is to appreciate who you are.

Because I do.  I am so grateful for all of you, my friends and family, and for the people you are and what you mean to me.  You’re perfect, just the way you came into my life, and I wanted to start the New Year out by telling you how much I love you.

And who wants friends skinnier than themselves anyway?
